Speech Therapist - Charleston Office
I have always had a love for learning and a passion for helping others. Through my adolescent and teen years I found myself gravitating toward working with children; wearing many hats as Parks & Recreation Leader, Bible School Teacher, Babysitter, Tutor, Volunteer, and Daycare Worker. It was a must that I pursue a degree in a field where I would be able to make a difference in my community everyday. During college I continued gravitating toward opportunities to work with children and their families. It was a great honor to be a Lead Teacher for the WV Motor Development Center where I taught children with varying abilities ranging 6mo old through kindergarten. These classes were designed for family involvement and focused on motor development, teaching basic sign language, improving social skills, incorporating music, making good choices, and encouraging learning through play. This grew my love for the family centered approach to meeting each child’s needs. Along with the experience at the Motor Development Center, I also pursued a certificate in Disabilities Studies. I graduated from West Virginia University in 2007 with a Bachelors in Speech Pathology & Audiology and again in 2009 with a Masters in Speech Pathology. During my graduate studies I had many great experiences through my rotations, including a placement in the school system working primarily with preschool special needs and autism. As a life-long resident of WV, I began working as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in my home county where I continued to work for 8yrs. In that time, I gained a great deal of experience with all ages and varying abilities. I am so blessed that my love for helping others can lead my daily work in this rewarding field. My husband, our fur baby Zoë, and I relocated to Mt Pleasant, SC in the fall of 2017. We are excited for our new adventure and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to continue my passion as an SLP with Bright Start in the Charleston, SC area.
