Speech Therapist - Midlands Office
I knew early in life that I wanted to have a job that could help people and MAKE A DIFFERENCE in their lives! I volunteered with hearing impaired and deaf children at the Houston School for Deaf Children and observed a speech therapist work with these children. It was through observing her and seeing how these children could better communicate, that I decided to become a speech-language pathologist. I am originally from Houston, Texas, but have lived in Columbia, SC for 23 years and now call Columbia “home”. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Al and then decided to get my Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology at USC in Columbia, SC. I have worked as an SLP for 21 years in a variety of settings such as Elementary Schools, hospitals, Inpatient and Outpatient Rehabilitation facilities, and now with Bright Start in Early Intervention and Natural Environment. I have three children ages (18, 15, and 5 years old) who keep me busy and feeling young! I have experience in evaluating and treating the following areas: articulation, apraxia, phonological processes, social/pragmatic, dysphagia/swallowing, receptive and expressive language, augmentative communication, voice and fluency disorders and/or delays. I know that all of my experiences as a mother, elementary education teacher, and speech therapist will help children excel in speech/language and/or swallowing skills and overall ability to communicate in everyday life situations! I feel very blessed and happy knowing that I followed my calling in life and that I can MAKE A DIFFERENCE in many people’s lives every day! I am very grateful to be working with such a wonderful company as BRIGHT START!
